Atom.io package for NMEA sentences visualization

The ongoing development involves adding support (via Node.js modules) for:

  • live NMEA feed from serial device
  • online/offline data visualization on map

If quick generation/decoding of NMEA sentences is needed, refer to

Maps

Good looking embedded maps inside Atom.io was not exactly an easy task to accomplish. Simply because the learning curve was wrong right at the beginning.

The assumption Atom.io(Node.js)+gmaps.js=>”nice and clean to the point” was particularly wrong!  If you want to go down the Google Maps road you need to reference the online Google Maps API (whatever the flavor is, Javascript in this case). This is not an option, it’s a fact. And external js code doesn’t play well with Atom.io (Chrome, WebKit) engine.

See the discussion Link to external js @ discuss.atom.io

Leaflet.js, on the other hand, is an excellent alternative to gmaps.js and  can be downloaded and used offline without restrictions. The node package leaflet-engine has been successfully implemented in Atom.io.
